Adaaran Select Meedhupparu is situated in Raa Atoll in the tropical Maldives – the transfer takes just 45 minutes by seaplane from Malé International Airport. As you soar over the idyllic islands and turquoise waters, you’ll get a tantalising taste of what’s to come. Raa Atoll, a collection of 88 islands, is a diver’s paradise. Expect to see countless varieties of marine life – from reef sharks and turtles to manta rays and pink coral. The warm waters are teeming with colour.
One attraction that’s highly recommended is Meedu Island, less than a 15-minute Dhoni ride from Meedhupparu. Here, you’ll discover traditional Maldivian houses made of local vegetation, thatch, or coral stones. Or how about a dolphin safari? The Maldives is home to several species of wild dolphins, which can be seen frolicking in the wake of the boat as you whizz by. You can also hitch a Dhoni boat ride to one of the deserted islands in the area, where you can enjoy a barbecue lunch and total, utter peace and tranquillity.
If you want to sample a bit more hustle and bustle, head to the capital of Malé. It’s quite the contrast from the secluded islands that surround it. Top of your must-see list should be the National Museum and the Grand Friday Mosque. The former palace of the Sultan of Maldives is full of fascinating exhibits showcasing the country’s rich history and culture, while the 17th-century mosque boasts intricate carvings and woodwork that make it an impressive example of traditional Islamic architecture. It’s worth remembering that the Maldives is a Muslim country, so bring something to cover your shoulders when exploring the city or local villages.
