Local Area
The small and serene Komandoo Island Resort is located in the north of Lhaviyani Atoll in the Maldives. When you travel to the resort, get ready to witness a mind-blowing sight during your 40-minute seaplane transfer from Malé Airport – you’ll see a string of tiny islands dotted across the sapphire Indian Ocean, giving a glimpse into the paradise that awaits you. Komandoo is surrounded by a shimmering lagoon and a kilometre of pure white sand. It’s the only resort on the island, guaranteeing pure escapism.
Lhaviyani Atoll is known for its first-class scuba diving and snorkelling. With nearly 50 dive sites nearby, including protected reefs teeming with vibrant marine life, as well as channels full of bigger fish, you’ll never run out of places to explore. The Prodivers Dive Centre is voted the best in the Maldives, and offers excellent facilities for both beginners and experienced divers – you can spot grey reef sharks, silver tip sharks and green sea turtles at the nearby dive sites. Prefer snorkelling? There are many amazing sites close to the resort – by boat or near your villa – filled with manta rays, moray eels, and a rainbow of reef fish darting through the coral.
With Komandoo as your base, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to unforgettable day trips. To learn more about the region’s marine life and see various species of turtles being nursed and rehabilitated, a visit to the Atoll Marine Centre is a must. For a luxurious day out, you can’t beat a sailing trip on Britt, a classic motor sailing yacht. Cruise around the atoll, soak up the sun, and take a dip with the dolphins. Or take a half-day tour of the capital island of the atoll, Naifaru, and get a taste of Maldivian culture at the local hospital, school, and mosque.
