Hand-Picked Hotel

Experience contrasting island vibes at Niyama Private Islands – ‘Chill’ for couples, ‘Play’ for families, both with first-rate water sports and unique dining experiences.

There are two sides to every story, and that’s certainly the case at Niyama Private Islands in the Maldives. This luxury resort sits across a pair of islands with contrasting vibes, offering guests a different experience depending on the type of getaway you’re after. The ‘Chill’ island is ideal for couples craving peace and relaxation, boasting a tranquil spa and extraordinary underwater restaurant. Meanwhile, the ‘Play’ island is better suited for families with its kids’ club and one-of-a-kind treetop eatery.

Niyama has a special claim to fame – it’s the only 5-star island where surfers can ride the waves right from the shore. But there’s so much more to it than just hanging ten. If you’re in a laidback mood, spread out your towel by the infinity pool with a good book. There are also activities such as tennis, ping pong, water sports and yoga to keep you entertained. Prioritise your wellbeing by visiting the Drift Spa, overlooking the crystalline lagoon. It’s the perfect place to unwind with a variety of treatments that incorporate local ingredients like Maldivian coral sand and coconut oil, designed to nurture your body and mind.

The dining scene on the islands is an exciting one, with unique settings and world-class cuisine. Edge is a floating restaurant that serves modern Indian Ocean specialities, with floor-to-ceiling windows and the opportunity to dine under the stars. Suspended six metres above the ground in the jungle is Nest, dishing up avant-garde Asian fare with jaw-dropping views. Tribal is a luxury campfire dining experience that offers hot-rock grills and international options. Meanwhile, Subsix is just the spot for truly special occasions, with a chef’s tasting menus served six metres below the ocean’s surface. There’s also a superb line-up of bars and cafés to quench your thirst, from sunrise to last orders.

Map of Niyama Private Island Maldives

Local Area

Niyama Private Islands in the Maldives is a sublime, nature-filled hideaway spread across two beautiful islands in the Dhaalu Atoll. Walk around pure white sandbars, surrounded by swaying coconut palms and banana leaf trees. It also couldn’t be simpler to explore the warm lagoon, and spot sea turtles and bottlenose dolphins. To get there, you can take a 45-minute scenic seaplane transfer from Malé International Airport. Alternatively, choose a 30-minute domestic flight to Dhaalu Atoll followed by a seven-minute speedboat transfer to the resort (either Comfort or Sapphire Class).

Dhaalu Atoll is home to some amazing coral reefs that you can explore on a private snorkelling tour, alongside a resident marine biologist. Expect to see aquatic characters like turtles, hammerheads, and dolphins. You can even adopt a coral as part of the resort’s coral regeneration programme. For something completely different, book the underwater trek by night and witness the reef come to life after-dark. There are plenty of water sports available such as kayaking and scuba diving, as well as surfing at The Surf Shack – it’s a great place to improve your surf skills under the guidance of experts.

Unique experiences come thick and fast at Niyama. The dolphin-watching cruise is certainly a crowd-pleaser, and you’ll be accompanied by friendly and knowledgeable staff who’ll escort you to see the playful dolphins frolicking in their natural environment. For a more intimate and romantic experience, how about a private sandbank picnic? You’ll be whisked away to a deserted island where you and your loved one can enjoy a secluded slice of paradise. Or, for an adventure at sea, head out on a catamaran sailing trip for a once-in-a-lifetime voyage across the unfeasibly turquoise waters.
