Sun Siyam Iru Veli resort can be found on the heavenly island of Aluvifushi in the Dhaalu Atoll. You’ll be given a warm welcome by friendly staff member upon arrival, following an exhilarating 40-minute seaplane transfer from the Maldives’ main airport in its capital, Malé. From the plane, you’ll spy all the elements that make the region so spectacular – turquoise Indian Ocean, bone-white sand beaches encircling lush mangroves, and a glimpse of the reefs beneath the shallows.
Dhaalu Atoll is a protected lagoon that’s home to some incredible marine life, such as blue marlins, yellow snappers, and rainbow runners. If you’re into scuba diving, swing by the PADI-certified dive centre at Iru Veli and the expert instructors will take you through your paces in the ocean, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro. The resort is in the prime position for visiting dive sites on the east and west sides of the atoll within just 25 minutes on the dive boat. If snorkelling is more your thing, you’re in for a treat – the house reef is packed with multi-coloured reef fish, turtles, and vibrant coral.
If you’re after some fun and unique experiences during your island escape, you’ll be spoilt for choice. First up, you can set sail on a sunset fishing and barbecue trip – here you’ll reel in some fish and grill it ‘Maldivian style’ on a nearby sandbank, while gazing at the honeyed skies.
