Located in the central North Island, Lake Taupo is the largest lake in New Zealand. Its roughly the size of Singapore, to give you an idea of scale. A popular tourist destination, its main draws are the picturesque backdrop snow-capped mountains, and the wide selection of outdoor pursuits in the area. A stone’s throw from Lake Taupo is Huka Falls. This natural wonder was created by the Waikato River, which plunges over a rocky ledge into a vivid turquoise pool. Surrounded by lush forest and rugged landscape, it’s a truly awe-inspiring sight. If jet boating isn’t your thing, there are plenty of sedate walking trails to take in the sights and sounds of this incredible attraction. The hot springs around Lake Taupo are also well worth a visit. Featuring a range of hot pools, mud baths and spa treatments, these geothermal spots are an ideal way to relax and unwind. At Otumuheke Stream you’ll find hot water flowing through a series of small pools and waterfalls, while at Hot Water Beach you can dig your own hot pools in the sand at the water's edge.
