Included excursions
San Bartolo Natural Park (half day, six miles)
1 / 5
This circular route takes from Colombarone and back again. Make the short coach transfer to Colombarone, an archaeological site close to the ancient Roman road, Via Flaminia. From here, begin your walk through the woods and farmland of Mount San Bartolo nature reserve. Set between Gabicce Mare and Pesaro, it leads to the hamlets of Casteldimezzo and Fiorenzuola di Focara. Continue along the cliffs bordered by the Maquis shrub, which is typical of the Italian coast, and the Adriatic Sea, before descending to the beautiful Bay of Vallugola. The return route follows tracks through olive groves and vineyards, along pathways taken by the ancient settlers of this area.
Conca River Valley: Mondaino and Saludecio (full day, nine-and-a-half miles)
1 / 5
Admire the dramatic landscapes of the Conca Valley and Ventana River, a key river barrier crossed during the World War Two Allied advance against the German Gothic Line. Travel through the medieval village of Mondaino to the woods nearby. Begin your walk in the Conca Valley, along trails and gravel roads past the partly-abandoned castle of Ceretto and on towards Saludecio, known as the painted village on account of its numerous murals. From here you transfer back to the hotel, a drive of approximately 25 minutes.
Rimini and the Marecchia Valley (full day, six miles)
1 / 5
Discover the Renaissance architecture and Roman heritage of Rimini, founded as Ariminium by the Romans in 268 BC. Travel by train from Cattolica station to Rimini, a journey of approximately 20 minutes. On arrival, set off on a walk through the town to see the Arch of Augustus and the Malatesta Temple, as well as several art installations inspired by the films of the Italian film director, Federico Fellini, born in Rimini in 1920. Continue to the Tiberius Bridge, which is over 2,000 years old, and visit the historic fisherman’s district of Borgo San Giuliano with its colourful buildings and murals. The route continues along the River Marecchia cycle path to the railway station in Rimini for your return train journey.
Furlo Gorge and Urbino urban trekking (full day, four miles)
1 / 5
Follow a riverside pathway on this gentle walk to the Furlo Gorge, and visit to the walled medieval city of Urbino. Transfer on a drive of approximately one hour to the starting point at Furlo Gorge, which is overlooked by the cliffs of Mount Pietralata and Paganuccio, part of the oldest section of the Roman ‘Via Flaminia’. Enjoy a scenic riverside walk along flat terrain. In the afternoon, continue to Urbino, a drive of approximately 30 minutes. Set off on foot from the Albornoz Fortress, with panoramic views over the countryside. Continue through the medieval quarter to reach the 15th-century Ducal Palace, a UNESCO Heritage site, and the heart of the city. Transfer back to the hotel, a drive of approximately one hour.
Mondavio and the countryside towards Barchi (half day, five miles)
1 / 5
Drive for approximately one hour to Mondavio, a historic village in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marches region. After walking through this picturesque village, continue along gravel roads and country lanes through the rural landscape of the Metauro and Cesano valleys, accompanied by panoramic views all the way. Arriving back in Mondavio, make the short drive to the hilltop hamlet of Barchi before returning to Gabicce Mare, approximately one hour away.
Location
The hotel is set on a hill, with a zig zag road or steps and path to reach the seafront and beach at the bottom, approximately 100 yards away. There is a lift to the seafront, around 220 yards away. Gabicce Mare is set beside a string of sandy beaches, bordered by cafes and restaurants serving seafood pasta and carafes of Italian wine. The town has several shops (mostly seasonal) and amenities and the nearest bus stop is 766 yards from the hotel. The drive to/from the airport takes approximately one hour and 40 minutes.
Out and about
Up in the hills behind the resort, you will find quiet villages and scenic walking routes, while a 30-minute bus journey along the coast brings you to the town of Pesaro, birthplace of famous composer Gioachino Rossini. Further afield you could explore hilltop San Marino, the oldest (and smallest) republic in Europe.
