Pestana Viking Hotel
Sprawling across a clifftop, 2km from Armação de Pêra, this hotel is wrapped up in beautifully landscaped gardens. It's perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, offering leisurely strolls along rugged cliffs that showcase some of the Algarve's most breathtaking scenery Follow the palm-lined lawns down the cliffs to the golden sands of Praia da Senhora da Rocha (the walk down will be well worth it). A pool sits within the gardens, and there’s another inside which is lovely in the cooler winter months (as is the spa, sauna and Turkish bath). Buffet meals are served in the main restaurant. The spacious and simply furnished rooms overlook the gardens or sea and have handy kitchenettes.

Local Area
You’re a couple of kilometres from Armação de Pêra, an upbeat resort town with a mix of shops, cafes and restaurants. A regular local bus can take you in, or it’s a 5-minute taxi ride. Buses can also take you further along the coast – explore historic Portimão or the bustling old town and marina of Albufeira. It’s easy to head inland, too, where you’ll find the Moorish city of Silves set amid a sea of orange groves – a visit to the fruit markets is a must.
Optional excursions
Optional excursions can only be booked in resort and are subject to minimum numbers
Guidiana river cruise
The meandering Guadiana River runs into the Atlantic just over three kilometres east of Monte Gordo. The river has been a natural frontier for more than 2,000 years. In 27 BC the Romans chose the river to mark the boundary between the provinces of Lusitania and Baetica, which were to become Portugal and southern Spain. You sail up the river, and enjoy lunch in a typical restaurant in a local village.
