Sustainable Tourism Tax
Since July 2016, the Tax for Sustainable Tourism is levied on all overnight stays in tourist accommodations on the Balearic Islands which will contribute to the preservation of the islands.
The amount of tax varies by hotel category and is between 50c and €1 (January to April), and between €2 and €4 (May-October) per person, per day. Long-term holidaymakers will also receive a 50% discount from the ninth day of their stay onwards.
You need to pay for this tax in Euros cash at check in, after which you should be provided with a receipt. You'll need to keep this receipt for reference as you may need to show this at check out and at the next hotel if staying in more than one.

The small, purpose-built resort of S’Algar stands on a rocky headland known for its coves, capes and islets. It is a pretty, peaceful place with a couple of small supermarkets and a restaurant, all reached from the hotel via a quiet sloping road and along the long, level promenade. The nearest bus stop from the hotel is 100 yards away and there is a regular bus service into pretty Es Castell. The drive to/from the airport takes approximately 25 minutes.

The island’s vibrant capital Mahón is approximately six-and-a-half miles away and can be reached by bus.

Mahón lies in a sheltered natural harbour. Its rocky shoreline is dotted with elegant Georgian-style architecture, a throwback to its period of 18th-century British occupation. The museum in Fort Marlborough offers a look back at this era. Other attractions close by include 19th-century Mola Fortress, built to prevent the return of the British, and Far de Favaritx lighthouse.

Mahon Harbour cruise

We’ll head to Mahon this morning and set sail on an hour-long boat cruise around the natural harbour. This is the second deepest natural dock in the world and also contains a unique military history that you’ll learn about while onboard. You’ll also have a chance to see more of the marine world underneath the water thanks to the boat’s glass bottomed hull. There are also seats on the upper deck for sunbathing and enjoying the view of the coastline. It’s a relaxing experience with soft drinks and ice cream to buy onboard the boat and informative commentary in different languages. After the trip is over, there will be time to walk around Mahon before boarding the bus back to the hotel.
