Included excursions
Playa Blanca on market day
1 / 4
Head to Lanzarote’s most southerly (and sunny) resort on market day to enjoy its sublime setting, backed by volcanic mountains and fringed by blond sandy beaches, and spot the millionaires’ yachts in the glitzy marina. There’s also time to browse the colourful stalls at one of Lanzarote’s best open-air markets where locally made jewellery is a popular souvenir.
Arrecife walking tour
1 / 4
Lanzarote’s small, sun-kissed capital is made for walking, with its picturesque backstreets and lovely promenade. Visit San Gabriel Castle, built on an islet to defend the harbour from pirates and reached by stone jetty from the shore, and Charco de San Gines, a saltwater lagoon in the heart of Arrecife filled with little boats and fringed by whitewashed houses, restaurants and bars. There’s time for shopping, too, in the upscale marina.
South Island and Teguise Market
1 / 4
After a scenic tour around the south of Lanzarote, head to Teguise to browse the tented tables and stalls that make up the largest street market in the eastern Canary Islands. Stallholders come here from all over the archipelago, as well as some from mainland Africa, resulting in fabulous displays of beautiful and often handmade goods. The market is also known for its street performers, often folk dancers and musicians, who make it an even more lively and colourful event.
North Island and El Patio Agricultural
1 / 4
This tour explores Lanzarote’s scenic north coast as well as its cultural heritage. Visit the Museu El Patio Agricultural, an open-air museum recreating a 19th-century farmhouse complete with machinery, windmill and occasional free-range chicken. There’s also a visit to the iconic Jardin de Cactus, designed by artist César Manrique and said to be his own favourite creation.
Location
The hotel is in Puerto Calero, on the south-east coast of Lanzarote, around two-and-a-half miles away from the extensive resort of Puerto del Carmen, which has the largest beach in Lanzarote, Playa Grande. There is a steep walk down into the sports marina which is adjacent to the hotel, where you will find a few shops and cafes. The island’s charming capital Arrecife, with its whitewashed houses and coastal lagoon, is just 11 miles away. The drive to/from the airport takes approximately 15 minutes.
Out and about
The volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya National Park are around nine miles away. The island also features a number of sites associated with its most famous son, artist and architect, César Manrique – including the Cactus Garden 20 miles away, Jameos del Agua 29 miles away, and Mirador del Rio viewpoint 32 miles away.
Timanfaya National Park
The Visitor Centre is located in Mancha Blanca and offers an overview of the park, which was created by volcanic eruptions between 1720 and 1736, and in 1824. The park’s otherwordly terrain features a jagged coastline, volcanic cones and solidified lava flows.
