Please note
Grade 3: This grade is ideal for those who enjoy a variation in walking levels from easy to moderate. You’ll be walking mainly on good paths at a low altitude, with occasional more demanding ascents and descents. Walking regularly in preparation prior to the tour is recommended due to 5 to 9 miles of walking in the space of 2.5 to 4 hours per day.
Included excursions
Helechos circular
1 / 5
Distance: 15 kilometres Ascent: 400 metres Duration: about 5½-6 hours Starting and finishing at Maguez, this circular walk with gradual ascents in the north of Lanzarote takes in meadows, stunning cliff-top views and a caldera. Passing by Los Helechos and Montaña Corona you will walk to the Mirador de Guinate. A steady climb round the slopes of Helechos, overlooking the Guinate valley, will take you back to Maguez.
Coastal walk
1 / 5
Distance: 13 kilometres Ascent: 100 metres Duration: about 5½-6 hours Good footwear required for this walk between Charcos de las Clicos and El Golfo! Enjoy spectacular views of the coast on a walk to the wilder parts of the island. See the white foam of the sea contrast with the black lava and walk across land formed by lava from extinct volcanoes.
Haria to Teguise
1 / 5
Distance: 16 kilometres Ascent: 370 metres Duration: about 4½-5 hours An otherwise easy walk, this route includes one stiff climb. You'll follow the ridge from Haria, the valley of a thousand palms, to the one-time island capital of Teguisem with spectacular views en routes. The stiff climb to the top of the ridge is compensated by the stunning panorama and by the local café. A later stop at the little church of Ermita de las Nieves will reveal more amazing cliff-top views.
Lanzarote’s little gem
1 / 5
Distance: 4 kilometres (minimum) Ascent: 20 metres Duration: variable This is a short, easy walk in the middle of nowhere – that isolation being its attraction. Starting at Montana Cuervo, you descend into the other-worldly caldera, past lava fields and cross a broken lava field which in season is covered with wild flowers. The actual walk in and out of the caldera should take no more than an hour – exploration of the caldera itself will depend on your individual preference and interest.
Island walk
1 / 5
Distance: 8 kilometres Ascent: 280 metres Duration: 6 hours This will be a varied walk encompassing further stunning views. The walk begins at Femes and along its route it incorporates ridge, valley and coastal trails as you make your way back to the hotel. The paths on this walk are not so good as those on the coastal walk, so although you'll be exploring a shorter distance it will be a longer duration.
Location
The hotel is in Puerto Calero, on the south-east coast of Lanzarote, around two-and-a-half miles away from the extensive resort of Puerto del Carmen, which has the largest beach in Lanzarote, Playa Grande. There is a steep walk down into the sports marina which is adjacent to the hotel, where you will find a few shops and cafes. The island’s charming capital Arrecife, with its whitewashed houses and coastal lagoon, is just 11 miles away. The drive to/from the airport takes approximately 15 minutes.
Out and about
The volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya National Park are around nine miles away. The island also features a number of sites associated with its most famous son, artist and architect, César Manrique – including the Cactus Garden 20 miles away, Jameos del Agua 29 miles away, and Mirador del Rio viewpoint 32 miles away.
Timanfaya National Park
The Visitor Centre is located in Mancha Blanca and offers an overview of the park, which was created by volcanic eruptions between 1720 and 1736, and in 1824. The park’s otherwordly terrain features a jagged coastline, volcanic cones and solidified lava flows.
