Walking in Calpe
Saga Hosted Hotels
Walking
Explore the beautiful and mountainous terrain of the Costa Blanca where we'll hike ascending hillside trails and walk through varied landscapes of cliffs, woodland, and villages. Follow trails with striking limestone ridges as our backdrop, offering a contrast to the rural countryside. Take in breathtaking views from The Rock of Ifach and the Summit of Sierra Olta. Stroll along sandy beaches, cliffside paths, and secret coves.
Five included guided walks
The Rock of Ifach (half day)
Remote Tricannes (three-quarter day)
Tarbena (three-quarter day)
The Summit of Sierra Olta (full day)
Fleix (full day)
Grade 3: This grade is ideal for those who enjoy a variation in walking levels from easy to moderate. You’ll be walking mainly on good paths at a low altitude, with occasional more demanding ascents and descents. Walking regularly in preparation prior to the tour is recommended due to 5 to 9 miles of walking in the space of 2.5 to 4 hours per day.
It’s all about location here. You’re set between the marina and the town centre, with the seafront promenade and sandy beach a couple of minutes’ walk away. In front of the hotel lies the Salinas de Calpe – a salt lake that’s a haven for flamingos. Behind it, you’ll see the looming figure of the Rock of Ifach, rising some 300 metres above the waves. You can spy it from your lounger by the palm-lined pool; some rooms have balconies overlooking it too. There's an indoor pool, too, which is heated seasonally. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by, but the hotel puts on live music several nights a week if you’re staying in.

Local Area
Calpe nestles along the Costa Blanca between Alicante and Denia and is ideal for those who don’t mind slightly more challenging walks over different terrains. Trains run to both destinations, and you can catch buses to Benidorm, a little way along the coast. If you’d rather stay put, you could explore Calpe’s Moorish castle or admire the imposing stone walls that once defended the town from pirates. For shoppers, there’s a great weekly market, held on a Saturday morning, And for food lovers, there’s a choice of Michelin starred restaurants to try out.
Included excursions
The Rock of Ifach
Distance: Four and a half miles Ascent: 410 feet The Rock of Ifach, rising to 1082 feet, has been designated a protected nature reserve. The mountain dominates both the village of Calpe and the harbour which lie at its foot. From your hotel, the route of the walk follows the promenade to Calpe harbour. A track and woodland path then lead steadily uphill to a good viewpoint about one-third of the way up the mountain. From this position there are superb panoramic views of the village, harbour and coastline. After returning to sea-level, the route explores the sandy beaches, cliff paths and tiny bays as far north as the picturesque inlet and tiny harbour at Les Basetes. The return route follows the same coastal path and promenade to your hotel.
