Included excursions
Conil de la Frontera
1 / 5
This wonderfully indulgent week starts off with a guided tour of Conil de la Frontera. It’s a lively seaside city with impressive views over the Atlantic matched by beautiful golden sand beaches and numerous cliffs and coves. The tour takes in the historic Torre Castilnovo tower overlooking the coast before winding through the city streets that are lined with ice cream parlours, seafood restaurants and tempting tapas bars. After soaking up the salty seaside ambience you’ll settle down for a traditional pescaíto frito before heading back to the hotel for sunbathing or a siesta.
Jerez de la Frontera
1 / 5
If you’re looking forward to tasting some of the world’s finest sherry, there’s only one place to head to in Andalucia and that’s Jerez de la Frontera. Also famed for its equestrian school and flamboyant flamenco performances, today’s tour unlocks the secrets to the city’s Moorish history and traditional Spanish style. After enjoying a visit to one of the local wineries, the day concludes with a delicious dining experience paired with regional wine.
Tapas Trail in Cadiz
1 / 5
There’s nothing better than strolling around the cobbled streets of Cadiz and experiencing the authentic ambience of life in Spain’s oldest city. Thanks to the ever-present form of the Catedral de la Santa Cruz de Cádiz it’s very hard to get lost here. And once you’ve taken in the pastel faded architecture of the Old Town it will be time to hit the tapas trail. This is Spanish foodie heaven with lots of local specialities and paired wines to be enjoyed over the course of the afternoon.
Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park
1 / 5
Make the most of a full day within the fresh mountain air of Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. It’s a wonderful location to visit with numerous narrow valleys and sweeping landscapes leading across evergreen oak forests and cavernous gorges. During a nature walk along the Arroyo de Campobuches O Guadarés river you’ll discover the names of some of the native wild herbs and flowers as well as spotting tell-tale signs of wildlife in the surrounding meadows. And what better way to complete a day spent in the countryside other than a slap-up organic feast at the Tambor del llano ecological farm. Roasted merino lamb and seasonal vegetables have never tasted so good.
Barbate
1 / 5
The final excursion of the week includes time in the La Breña nature reserve, with a walk through pine forests and along the coast towards Cape of Trafalgar. In Barbate, there is a visit to a museum on the traditional almadraba method of tuna fishing, followed by a tour of a working cannery. The day concludes with a tasting menu at El Campero, a restaurant widely regarded for its tuna dishes.
Location
The golden sands of La Barrosa Beach stretch for three miles in front of the hotel and there is a small shopping centre around half-a-mile away. This scenic region of the Costa de la Luz is one of the most unspoiled in Spain - with vast sandy beaches and Atlantic surf. There is a bus stop 76 yards from the hotel. The drive to/from the airport takes approximately two hours.
Out and about
The ancient city of Cádiz may be visited on an included excursion and can also be reached by bus, alternatively visit several of the ‘Pueblos Blancos’ whitewashed traditional villages including Conil de la Frontera and Cape Trafalgar. Further on, Jerez de la Frontera, is approximately 34 miles away.
Jerez de la Frontera
This traditional city is known for its sherry, flamenco and dancing horses. Head to the city’s old quarter, which is set around Alcázar de Jerez, a Moorish fortress founded in the 11th century. Or perhaps visit The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, a famed riding school with horse shows and a carriage museum.
