Hotel Garbi Costa Luz
Conil de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain
You’re on a beautifully unspoilt stretch of coast here, just two kilometres from low-key Conil de la Frontera, a typical Andalusian whitewashed town by the sea. The huge pool is the star of the show, bordered by palms and overlooking the white-tipped waves of the Atlantic. There’s a small heated indoor pool inside (ideal if the wind picks up), plus a bar and a buffet restaurant with a terrace surrounded by greenery. Rooms are simply furnished but comfortable.

Location
Conil is a picturesque former fishing village, with a lovely old town and plenty of tapas bars and seafood restaurants. The main beach is one of Spain’s most beautiful – a long sweep of golden sand with shallow waters that are surprisingly calm for the Costa de la Luz. A 20-minute drive leads you to picturesque Vejer de la Frontera, a hilltop pueblo blanco, while 40 minutes will bring you to the ancient city of Cadiz (there’s a weekly included shuttle bus). A little further afield, you’ve got Jerez de la Fronte...

Optional excursions
Gibraltar
1 / 3
Today we’ll really get under the skin of Gibraltar as we learn more about the relationship with Britain and what it means to be part of Spain’s Iberian Peninsula. We’ll take the cable car to the summit of the Rock and look out over the Bay of Algeciras and Morocco’s Atlas Mountain from 1,476 feet. We’ll also visit the 8th century Moorish Castle and uncover Gibraltar’s military importance within a network of subterranean siege tunnels. From an intriguing history and stunning scenery to wild monkeys and crispy calentita, strap yourself in for this excellent all-day excursion.
Jerez and Cadiz
1 / 3
Travelling by coach in the company of an English-speaking guide, you’ll transfer to Jerez de la Frontera for a half day sightseeing excursion. The route itself is a scenic one with rural landscapes and farmers’ fields forming the famous Ruta del Toro - Route of the Bulls – through the Cadiz countryside. On arrival in Jerez, you’ll visit one of Europe’s most prestigious wine estates, the Williams & Humbert Winery. It’s the perfect place to start the tour with the history, production process and region’s celebrated wines, sherries and brandies all explained in the company of a local expert. After a sherry and snack tasting experience at the winery, you’ll rejoin the coach and drive to Puerto de Santa María in time to catch the 30-minute ferry to Cadiz. From here you’ll be invited on a guided walking tour through the historic city centre culminating at the Catedral de Santa Cruz de Cádiz. Once the tour has completed, you’ll have a couple of hours’ free time to explore at your leisure. The Castillo de San Sebastian on La Caleta beach is a great place to explore and there's nothing that beats a stroll under the palm trees and through the botanical gardens of Parque Genovés.
Route of the Pueblos Blancos and Fighting Bulls
1 / 3
This optional half day excursion invites you to visit the precariously placed city of Ronda that’s split in half by the stunning El Tajo Gorge. The valley views from the Puente Nuevo stone bridge that connects the old Moorish town with the modern El Mercadillo are worth the trip alone. A guided tour of Ronda opens up the entrance to the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain, the Plaza de Toros, as well as ancient Arabic bath houses, historic stone hewn bridges and the Casa del Rey Moro heritage museum. Once the tour has completed you’ll have a couple of hours’ free time to explore at your leisure before heading back to base via the whitewashed village of Setenil de las Bodegas and the scenic Malaga coast road.
