Step aboard the Lady Diana, Mark Twain or The Jackie for a two-hour cruise along the charming River Dee. Settle in for lovely river-bank views and enjoy a drink from the bar as you cruise through rural Cheshire. From moorings on The Groves in Chester, head south, passing grand homes and gardens, out of the city and into leafy Cheshire countryside. The River Dee meanders through the Eaton Estate, the ancestral home of the Duke of Westminster. Discover picturesque Aldford Iron Bridge and then sail back downstream to the city. An informative sightseeing commentary will share interesting facts and stories about the river and its surroundings.

Historic Chester celebrates Christmas in the best possible way with its city walls and medieval double-tiered streets decked in lights. Chester Zoo hosts its famous Lanterns and Light event with dazzling animal lanterns and night trails to explore, and there is a Christmas Eve carol at Chester Cathedral and a Christmas Tree Festival which runs until January. The hotel is two miles from the centre of Chester with its shops and cathedral, and three miles from Chester Zoo, all of which can be accessed by taxi or the bus service which stops outside the hotel.

Chester is a vibrant city with a unique character, and is famous for its many Roman ruins, complete city walls, medieval double-tiered streets, Tudor-style buildings and river-side views. The Romans named the city Deva, and beneath the streets there is evidence of an ancient Roman town and fortress dating back nearly 2,000 years. Here you will find ruins of the largest man-made Roman amphitheatre in Britain where 2nd-century gladiators battled. Enjoy a walk on the City Walls past Northgate, Eastgate, Watergate and Bridgegate, discover the treasures within the Cathedral, and explore Chester’s double-tiered streets, The Rows, that can be traced back to the 13th century.
