Perfect for single travellers, as well as couples and groups, this holiday is based at Falmouth – Penryn’s University Campus, which sits above Penryn and around four miles from vibrant Falmouth itself. Take long coastal walks, days on the beach, time pottering around the independent shops and evenings enjoying the many cultural venues of Falmouth. We include excursions to Bonython Estate Gardens and a cruise along the River Fal, and two nights of live entertainment so you can meet fellow guests.

The manor house strikes a dramatic sea-facing pose, its grand façade dating back to the 1780s. Explore the South African roots beneath the display of ornamental grasses, cannas and proteas that bring one of the three lakes into a froth of summer colour. The array of species is enough for any garden-lovers, especially when it’s served up with views that stretches over the orchard of Cornish apple trees towards the swan-scattered Lake Joy. Wander back through the woodland walk, or a meander through the tree fern and rhododendron dell.

Set on a hill amid 100 acres of land, Penryn Campus is on a sloping site, overlooking the town of Penryn. The campus features inclines, ramps and outdoor stairways connecting buildings and Glasney Student Village. Famed for its sub-tropical flora and fruit-producing orchards, it boasts views towards the Fal estuary, and is a mile and half from the centre of Penryn and around four miles from Falmouth. There is a regular bus service from the campus to both Penryn and Falmouth.

Falmouth is a vibrant fusion of seafaring industry and maritime heritage, artistic creativity and bustling student life – all surrounded by the wild beauty of its dramatic coastline. A haven for nature lovers and artists, Falmouth is the place to visit if you want to enjoy fresh sea air and beautiful beaches, and the town itself offers great places to eat, interesting independent shops, colourful bars and cultural venues. Penryn is one of the oldest towns in Cornwall, and in the 15th century was a major port. Located at the head of the Penryn River, this harbour town is full of medieval character with its traditional stone terraces, ‘opes’ and alleyways, which contain some 250 listed buildings. Explore the many art galleries, shops, eateries and cafes.
Walking the salt path
This glorious part of Cornwall is perfect for long coastal walks, breathing fresh sea air and enjoy some the country’s best views. From Falmouth’s seafront promenade, you can walk sections of the South West Coast Path past beaches like Gyllyngvase and Swanpool, to find Cornwall’s most dramatic cliffs and pretty hidden coves. Take up the trail yourself and follow one of many routed paths, or join a local guide for a guided walk with others.
National Maritime Museum Cornwall
With over 15 galleries, a boatbuilding workshop, interactive exhibits and a collection of artworks, maps and charts, memorabilia and other objects, there is plenty to see at the excellent National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Located at Discovery Quay in the centre of Falmouth, the museum is a great place to visit to get an insight into Cornish life past and present.
Four beautiful beaches
Within a short distance of Falmouth, you will find a choice of four beautiful beaches, the most famous being Gyllyngvase Beach, only 500 yards from the town centre and well known for its Blue Flag award-winning golden sand. To the east of Gyllyngvase lies Castle Beach with its sunken U-Boat wreck and beautiful rocky reefs, and to the west, Swanpool Beach and Maenporth Beach.

Breakfast and dinner are canteen-style, self-service and available in the Stannary Dining Hall, which may involve an uphill walk of up to 200 yards from your accommodation depending on which block you stay in. Breakfast includes a selection of hot items, cereals, fruit, pastries and yoghurt, plus tea and coffee. Dinner includes a choice of three simple main courses including a vegetarian option, as well as a selection of salads, starters and desserts. Wine, beer, soft drinks and bottled water can be purchased at an additional cost from the Stannary Student Bar in the evening.

There are 1,500 student-style basic rooms in Glasney Student Village, for sole occupancy. Rooms include small double beds or twin beds, bedding, towels and soap, an en-suite bathroom with toilet, walk-in shower and sink. The village is made up of a series of small accommodation blocks all in the same location. Saga guests stay in the same block and all rooms are on the ground floor. Please note: porterage is not offered on university stays. The distance between reception and your accommodation maybe up to 100 yards away.
