Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum (Christmas Eve)
1 / 1
Enjoy a visit to Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, an historic house and art gallery on Bournemouth’s East Cliff, overlooking the sea. Completed in 1901, Sir Merton Russell-Cotes gave the house to his wife Annie for her 66th birthday. Filled with objects from their travels around the world, the walls are also lined with a collection of British art creating a unique atmosphere in a most dramatic setting.
Location
Bournemouth in December has earned itself a reputation as a Christmas destination which goes all out with festive cheer. In previous years it has hosted the UK’s largest Christmas market with an ice rink and Christmas Tree Wonderland, plus the city’s best live choirs and Christmas carollers performing in The Square, a short walk away, throughout the season. Bournemouth is certainly a town where you cannot fail to feel the spirit of Christmas as you smell mince pies and mulled wine on the cold sea air, and shop for gifts in the many shops and stalls.
Out and about
The winter months in Bournemouth offer a chance to walk the beautiful shoreline without the crowds of summer. Seven miles of beaches and winter walks are all yours to enjoy, and you can take in the views of the Jurassic Coast and the Isle of Wight. Even in winter there is lots to see and do in Bournemouth as it is a year-round town with two historic piers, museum, galleries and, of course, amusement arcades. Visit Westbourne, a charming, village-like suburb of Bournemouth, which features a historic shopping district known for its Victorian charm and independent spirit. Its centrepiece is Westbourne Arcade, a well-preserved Gothic structure that houses a unique mix of boutiques, cafes and tiny cinema. You can also take a walk from Hengistbury Head to Alum Chine, and explore 2000 acres of glorious parks and gardens.
