Parham House and Gardens (half day)

Explore the grandeur of Parham House, which dates to 1577. Inside this Grade 1 listed manor house, you can see an impressive collection of paintings, needlework and tapestry as well as the Grand Hall with its fine portraiture. The gardens are a special treat. Set in the heart of a medieval deer park at the foot of the South Downs, Parham’s four-acre Walled Garden is a tapestry of colour and rich scents and is surrounded by the seven-acre Pleasure Grounds, which feature a lake nestled among trees and native heathers, intricated turf and a brick maze.
Arundel Castle and Gardens (half day)

There is nearly 1,000 years of history at Arundel Castle, which is situated in stunning grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex. Built at the end of the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel this is a fine example of a historic castle that has all the grandeur and presence – with finely preserved interiors, rare paintings and beautiful gardens. Arundel Castle history dates back almost a thousand years, making it one of the longest inhabited homes in the UK. The keep was built in 1068 on top of an artificial earth mound and has been extended and restored over the centuries.

The Bishop Otter Campus is a small campus covering nearly 35 acres, set within plenty of green space with a combination of historic buildings and excellent modern facilities. The campus was founded in 1839 by William Otter, Bishop of Chichester and retains a strong sense of history as many original buildings have survived. The campus is approximately three-quarters of a mile from Chichester, and there is a regular bus service between the campus and the city centre.
Out and about
Roman baths, Georgian architecture, a magnificent Norman cathedral, a vibrant pedestrianised centre and pretty gardens and city walls – Chichester has it all. This is the only city in West Sussex, and is one of the best-preserved Georgian cities in the UK. Everywhere you walk there is something to see, from streets full of beautiful Georgian houses and cottages, and the 16th-century Market Cross, to the whimsical statue of the poet Keats. Enjoy exploring the sights, shopping for souvenirs and treating yourself in one of the many cafes.
Chichester Cathedral
Dating to 681, Chichester’s cathedral was established in 1075 and completed in 1108 with stone brought from the Isle of Wight and Normandy in France. One of the highlights is the intricate stonework known as the Chichester Sculptures, which are amongst the most important in church craftsmanship, telling religious stories such as the raising of Lazarus. Explore the grand interior and see a stained-glass window by Marc Chagall, a tapestry by John Piper and a painting by Graham Sutherland. Entrance fees may apply.
Fishbourne Roman Palace
Discover the remains of a vast Roman palace complex constructed in 75AD, just 30 years after the Roman conquest of Britain. Built for the highest echelons of Romano-British society, this fascinating site is considered the largest Roman residential palace in Britain, and as well as giving a unique insight into life in Roman Britain, it boasts a large collection of mosaics. Bishops Palace Gardens
Sometimes referred to as the ‘secret gardens’, Bishop’s Palace Gardens are 14 acres of tranquil and manicured havens that are home to a host of beautiful plants, unusual trees and shrubs, water features, a pergola walk and a variety of birds, butterflies and other wildlife. Stroll through the leafy paths, watch the world go by on a nearby bench and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of one of Chichester’s most glorious hidden treasures.
