Local Area

Khao Lak is a peaceful and captivating tourist spot located in the Phang Nga region of Thailand's west coast. Made up of a handful of towns and white-sand beaches stretched along 15 miles, there’s plenty of space for visitors to relax and unwind along the shore. For nature lovers, Khao Lak provides a variety of hiking opportunities around Ton Chong Fa Waterfall, as well as Khao Sok National Park, home to elephant sanctuaries and one of the world’s oldest rainforests.

For clear waters edging bone-white sands, and an array of water sports like snorkelling and scuba diving, Nang Thong Beach is a must. It’s also close to Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, a protected area with walking trails, waterfalls, and wildlife that’s well worth a visit. You can spy several species of birds, monkeys, deer, and wild boar – not forgetting the large population of Asian elephants, of course. It’s rich in history having been the site of a major World War II battle, with the remains of old military bunkers and trenches still present.

When it comes to shopping, Bang La On and Bang Niang should be on your list, with the latter offering a mix of traditional and modern shopping options for clothing, accessories, and souvenirs. There’s also a popular Sunday market at Takua Pa Old Town. This quaint town is a melting pot of Thai, Chinese and Muslim cultures, and it’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the history of the area, and sample delicious street food and local delicacies to boot.
