Holidays to multicultural Toronto
Toronto is packed with diverse neighbourhoods and communities, each with its own character and culture, making this fascinating city a vibrant and exciting place to visit. With one of the fastest growing populations in North America, it’s only becoming more popular as a holiday destination, and it’s easy to see why. Not only is it packed with interesting restaurants, independent shops, and buzzing cafes and bars, it also manages to be a lush green city, with 18% of the city dedicated to parks.
With eclectic architecture, wide public spaces, incredible cuisine, underground shopping and plenty of culture to soak up, Canada’s largest city is the perfect stop on any holiday to Canada. And of course, Niagara Falls is just a short drive away...
CN Tower
At 553 metres tall, this unmissable landmark towers over Toronto – so much so that its silhouette is synonymous with the city. The tallest freestanding structure in the world until it was knocked from its lofty perch (figuratively) by Dubai's Burj Khalifa in 2009, the journey to the top in the glass lift might have you involuntarily closing your eyes. Take a moment to catch your breath at the top with a meal in the restaurant that slowly rotates, giving you a bird’s eye view of the city’s incredible tapestry below. Top tip – go on your first night, and then pick out the places you’d like to explore once you’re back on solid ground!
The Distillery District
Found in the heart of Toronto, a visit to the pedestrian-only Distillery District feels at points like a step back in time. Here you’ll find lovingly restored 19th-century industrial architecture and picturesque cobblestone streets juxtaposed with spectacular examples of 21st century design and creativity. It’s closed to traffic, making it a joy to meander through and explore the various galleries, restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Niagara Falls
Glorious, magnificent, incredible – none of these superlatives go too far when describing the sight of hundreds of thousands of gallons of water falling at the same time. A trip to Niagara Falls will never disappoint – whether you choose to take a boat ride to the base (and get soaked in the process), witness it all from the skies from a helicopter or even travel underground to see the falls from underneath, you’ll be taken aback by the sheer scale and power on display. Just a 1.5 hour drive from the city of Toronto, a visit to Niagara Falls is an absolute must when you’re visiting this part of the world.
