Dive into Queensland’s wonders

Whether you want to play castaway on K’gari (Fraser Island), snorkel with leatherback turtles beneath the waves, or sample sensational food and wine, Queensland delivers.

A giant of a state in Oz’s north-east, its 1,000 ecosystems make it the most naturally diverse of all the Australian states.

This region packs in dreamy white-sand beaches, vast rose-hued Outback, colossal mountain peaks, and the Daintree Rainforest – an ancient World Heritage Site brimming with wildlife.

Queensland’s biggest draw of all, though, is the world-famous Great Barrier Reef.  Renowned for its incredible beauty and abundance of diverse marine life, the Great Barrier Reef which stretches 1,429 miles up Queensland’s coastline is the world’s largest coral reef system, and there are so many wonderful ways to explore it.

Southern Queensland

Glossy skyscrapers and traditional wooden homes sit shoulder-to-shoulder in Brisbane, Australia’s fastest-growing city. This cosmopolitan hub is renowned for its wining and dining scene, with smart rooftop bars and riverfront eateries  (delete both easy to come by).

Further afield, you’ve got the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, where miles of sandy beaches and rolling green hinterland lure holidaymakers . The swish beachside resort of Noosa is also well worth a visit, for its stylish boutiques and restaurants. Another gem is Fraser Coast, which brags two of Australia’s heritage-listed sites — the world's largest sand island, K’gari (Fraser Island) and the world's first Whale Heritage Site, Hervey Bay.

Queensland’s got so much to offer it can be hard to narrow it down. Here’s our pick of the region’s must-sees…

Great Barrier Reef Islands

Properly experience Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with a stay on one of its tropical islands. Spot manta rays as you walk along the beach, catch a boat out to snorkel or scuba dive, or enjoy aerial views over the area with an unforgettable helicopter ride. There are 900 Great Barrier Reef islands in total, but up there with the best are Lizard Island, Hamilton island, and Heron Island.

Nature & wild

Queensland’s natural sights come thick and fast. Our picks include the world’s largest sand island K’gari (Fraser Island), the Noosa Everglades, the ancient Daintree Rainforest, and the mountains of the Great Dividing Range. The region’s abundant wildlife, meanwhile, includes dolphins, turtles, dugongs, cassowaries, dingoes, humpback whales, and more.

Culture, beaches & lifestyle

One of Queensland’s biggest draws is its variety. From the vibrant city of Brisbane to the stunning beaches of the Gold and Sunshine coasts, there’s something for everyone. Riverside dining, historic walking tours, road trips pockmarked with sights and R&R in tropical surrounds – the choice is yours. Even better, come for a longer-than-average stay and do it all in one go.
