The western shores of Mauritius boast a sublime stretch of sand with the 13-kilometre Flic en Flac coastline situated right at the centre of the action. This is where you’ll find Sugar Beach, 50 kilometres west of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
It’s the perfect place to escape for a week or more with southwest-facing views over Le Morne Brabant peninsula tempting you into tropical hiking expeditions. If you prefer to practice your swing rather than scale up to 1,824 feet, the golf courses of Ile aux Cerfs and Tamarina are just inland from Flic en Flac Beach.
Alternatively, if those lush green mountain views have whetted your appetite for exotic excursions, Black River Gorges National Park and Trou Aux Cerfs Volcano are just an hour’s drive inland.
