Six railway journeys, including a steam train on one of India’s UNESCO World Heritage Mountain Railways, take us from Delhi into the jewelled palaces of the Golden Triangle, 'jungle book' national park of Ranthambore and Himalayan foothills of spiritual Shimla - covering off ancient forts, colourful bazaars and tiger safaris along the way.

Pink palaces and more in Jaipur
1 / 7
The Rajasthan capital of Jaipur is not only famous for its pink cityscape, but is bursting with beautiful palaces, majestic forts and idyllic lakes. From the complex courtyards of the city palace, and the intricate honey-combed structure of Hawa Mahal, you'll also have some free time time to stroll city bazaars and soak in views from hilltop forts.
Bengal tiger trekking
1 / 7
While the sighting of a resplendant Bengal tiger stalking the undergrowth is the top prize, we get two safari game drives to go wildlife spotting in sprawling Ranthambore National Park. Cameras at the ready for marsh crocodiles, leopards, sloth bears and so much more.
Savour a thali lunch
1 / 7
If you find it hard to pick one dish then you'll enjoy eating a traditional thali. Made up of lots of little dishes but served on one large plate, you'll get a choice of rice, dhal (lentils), vegetables, chutneys, yogurt-based raita, and different flatbreads. Not to be missed.
Strike a pose at the Taj Mahal
1 / 7
Perhaps one of the most iconic symbols of love, the Taj Mahal is a crowning testament to Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's third wife. Yes, you may have seen countless images of this marble mausoleum, but nothing can prepare you for seeing it in real life. From sunrise to sunset, the hues of the Taj Mahal change with the light - and it's the perfect backdrop for any photo.
Changing of guards at Wagah
1 / 7
This is a spectacle not to be missed. Stand amongst cheering crowds as Indian and Pakistani border guards meet for a rousing display of military showmanship from competitive marching to chest beating and stomping.
Kalka to Shimla on a toy train
1 / 7
We'll traverse our way across some of India's most spectacular scenery on this 60 mile narrow guage railway that begins in Kalka and finishes at the foothills of the Himalayas in Shimla. From jagged mountains and waterfalls to pretty hill stations and pine forests, we'll trundle through 100 tunnels and over 80 bridges on a dinky train measuring just 2ft 6ins wide.
Feel like royalty at Agra Fort
1 / 7
Prepare to have your head turned. Once the home of Mughal emperors, this palatial fort is a fine example of building ingenuity. Walk through courtyard after courtyard of this red-sandstone and marble fortress and be amazed by its sheer scale and craftmanship.
