Local Area
Bali is situated in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago in between Lombok to the east and Java to the west. It’s a fabulous place for a restful break with soft sand beaches, delicious cuisine and year-round sunshine providing the perfect holiday hot spot.
Arrive in the capital, Denpasar, and you’ll be transported into a whirl of Hindu and Buddhist temples, palatial properties and national museums. It can feel a little like being chucked in at the deep end, but you’ll get the hang of things without too much bother.
Most folk tend to use the city as a gateway to more peaceful locations. The beach resort town of Sanur, especially, sits just to the southeast of Denpasar. It’s just a 30min transfer from the airport but will feel a whole world away in terms of peace and quiet.
That’s the great thing about Bali, you don’t have to travel too far to find your happy place.
