Local Area
The Chao Phraya River snakes through the centre of Bangkok before exiting south into the Gulf of Thailand. It’s long been one of the city’s main sources of transportation although, these days, the BTS skytrain and airport taxis offer an easy entrance for anyone arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, about an hour’s drive from the city centre.
Situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya, within the affluent Thonburi district, the Anantara Resort is conveniently close to several notable landmarks, including the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Arun. And if you’re looking for a retail therapy fix, the Riverside Plaza shopping centre is within easy walking distance and the hip and trendy Asiatique night market is just on the other side of the river.
The resort is also located next to the Loy Pela Voyages pier, where you can set sail on a romantic river cruise all the way to the ancient capital of Siam, Ayutthaya. If you’d rather stay local, you can explore Bangkok’s narrow canals – known as khlongs – by traditional long-tail boat. It’s a great way to glide past the old-fashioned wooden shop houses and stop off for a bite to eat at one of the neighbourhood street food stalls.
With no less than eight golf courses nearby and some of the city’s finest riverside restaurants right on your doorstep, it’s no wonder this hotel brings out the best of Bangkok.
