Local Area

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend a few days relaxing and soaking up the sunshine, Hoi An is well worth adding to the hit list. Situated overlooking the Vietnam East Sea, this is where well-preserved Indochine architecture sits side by side traditional Chinese and Vietnamese shophouses. You’ll also find Japanese-style covered bridges as well as a network of scenic canals cutting through the Old Town.

Although Hoi An is best regarded as one of Vietnam’s most historic coastal towns it also has several amazing beaches nearby – including Binh Minh – which let you stay just outside the ancient city centre. Shuttle bus services regularly head into the town for day trippers, or you can opt to borrow a bike and pedal along the rural lanes at your own pace.

Getting to the central Vietnam coast is no problem at all. Flights from Hanoi to nearby Da Nang take just over an hour and, from there, Hoi An is just a 45-minute drive from the airport. Alternatively, if you’re looking to see more of the coast and countryside along the way, there’s a train that’ll whisk you from Hanoi to Da Nang via the imperial city of Hue.
