Local Area
Darwin is the Northern Territory’s capital, situated on the Top End looking out over the Timor Sea. It’s a richly diverse city with several fresh food markets and alfresco festivals creating a real summer holiday resort vibe. Just be aware, this is the wettest state capital in Australia. Be prepared for heat and humidity including tropical storms in summer.
Down at the waterfront you’ll find sandy seaside parks and saltwater lagoons situated in front of open-air cafes and seafood restaurants. It’s the perfect place to go for a stroll on the prom, with the bright lights of the Central Business District just a short walk away.
If you’re exploring further afield from Darwin, there are some amazing day trip locations nearby. Kakadu, Litchfield and Nitmiluk national parks are all approximately an hour’s drive to the southeast. Organised hiking and canoeing tours will take you through some of Australia’s most dramatic gorges – ideal for picnics within earshot of tiered waterfalls.
