Local Area
Sitting on the banks of the Brisbane River, Queensland’s capital’s bayside suburbs spread all the way to the ocean on Australia’s central east coast. Head inland and you’ll find the city, itself, is compiled of cultural centres along the South Bank and expansive parks such as Roma Street and the City Botanic Gardens over the water.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, you won’t go far wrong with the South Bank. Situated on a curve in the river, it boasts a range of riverside restaurants, parks, and the Brisbane Wheel all easily accessible on foot. The Queensland Museum and the Gallery of Modern Art can also be found on the south side of the river.
Once you’ve got your bearings you might want to explore a little further afield. The summit of Mount Coot-tha has some great views over the city, whilst the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is just a 30min drive away. And if you’re looking to sample the coast with the most, the beach ‘burbs are about a 45-minute drive east.
