Local Area

Set against a backdrop of tropical rainforests and the Coral Sea, Cairns’ beaches are some of the best in the world. All along the coastline between Cairns and Port Douglas, you’ll discover untold opportunities to walk barefoot on the sand and snorkel in the shallows.

Also, as this coastal stretch of Queensland is situated close to the Great Barrier Reef, you’ll be presented with plenty of chances to explore, offshore. Day trips from Port Douglas can take you right out over the reef with glass-bottomed boats and snorkelling safaris just a couple of options alongside champagne cruises at sunset.

Of course, Cairns’ beaches and the underwater coral aren’t the only things to attract travellers to this area of northeast Australia. You’ll also have the chance to explore in eucalyptus forests and take a tour of a coconut grove alongside hiking through Daintree Rainforest – that predates the Amazon by ten million years.

The star gazing’s not bad either – just make sure to check into a luxury treetop bungalow to enjoy the unadulterated night’s sky to maximum effect.
