Holiday location
Local Area
The island of Antigua is located in the northeast of the Caribbean Sea, just at the cusp of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a tropical idyll ringed by coral reefs and 365 separate white-sand beaches. Aside from the obvious opportunities to kick back and take it easy, there are numerous natural landmarks that are well worth getting out of the hammock for.
Devil’s Bridge National Park, for example, is a location that sings to the soul. Located on the east of the island, very close to Hammock Cove, this limestone rock formation has been formed over millennia to provide visitors with some incredible sea views.
Explore further south on the island and it’ll be the walking trail at Shirley Heights that captures the imagination. Located close to the maritime museums at English Harbour, this fairly challenging route will require you to swap sandals for sensible walking shoes but the views from the top are well worth the effort.
The island’s small but colourful capital, St. John’s, is around 40 minutes away by car, and transfers to/from the airport are a similar sort of duration.
