The Great House Antigua
Charming, colonial-era sugar mill on Antigua’s peaceful east coast.
The Great House Antigua has more than a touch of colonial elegance about it. This is the site of a 350-year-old sugar mill plantation, that now comes complete with a palm-fringed swimming pool and a 26-acre tropical garden.
Four spacious suites can be found within the historic house while semi-detached cottages provide instant access to private verandas and swaying hammocks in the garden. Elsewhere, you’ll find massage treatments and Tibetan bowl therapies as well as guided bush walks and kayaking. There's also aerobics and Pilates in addition to table tennis and afternoon tea on the terrace, plus yoga on a hillside deck.
When you're in need of sustenance, you'll find a wide range of Antiguan and international dishes available from the Great House kitchen. Fresh fruit and homemade bread, honey and jam are often served for breakfast on the garden terrace and listen out for the chef announcing the catch of the day that'll be served at dinner time in the main house.

Holiday location
Local Area
Antigua is situated to the northeast of the Caribbean crescent, just a few miles north of Montserrat. It’s a mid-sized island by Caribbean standards, and just over 20 kilometres across. You can easily get around it in a day by car and make the most of the relatively low-lying scenery on foot. In fact, there are numerous hiking trails in Antigua, especially so in the east, around Devil’s Bridge National Park, and in the south, close to Shirley Heights.
If you’re staying in and around St Peter’s, in the east, you’ll be treated to a much more natural experience than on the west coast. The west is where the majority of the five-star beach resorts can be found, close to Five Islands Village and Jolly Harbour.
Days out will often include visits to Nelsons Dockyard and English Harbour, in the south, to learn more about the island’s seafaring and colonial heritage. It’s an ideal location for day-trippers with maritime museums, yacht-filled marinas and waterside restaurants.
