Tropical beachside resort on a peaceful part of the south coast.

Set against a white-sand backdrop on the south coast of Barbados, Bougainvillea has got all the makings of an unforgettable holiday retreat. From the moment you arrive you’ll be invited to press pause – the tropical grounds are peppered with palms and cascading water fountains.

Once you’ve settled in and taken in the view, it’ll be time to swap shoes for sandals and head for Maxwell Beach. Here, warm, clear Caribbean shallows await, so don’t forget your snorkel. Elsewhere, you’ll find two good-size pools – one of which, comes with a swim-up bar for cocktails. Close by, the Karma Spa offers wraps and massages in tranquil surroundings.

In the evenings, it’s all about casual dining at the Calabash Beach Bistro, followed by live entertainment under the stars. If you fancy a livelier night out, the popular nightlife area of St. Lawrence Gap is nearby – but don’t worry, the bars are safely out of earshot. There are also a number of inviting restaurants within easy walking distance, that are well worth trying out for an evening change of scene.

Local Area

Set off for a holiday in Barbados and you’ll find yourself on the eastern edge of the Caribbean, surrounded by white-sand beaches and beautiful botanical gardens. It’s the perfect place for a tropical adventure with SUP boarding, snorkelling, and kayaking all available for those who want to keep active in the water.

If you’re looking to explore, there’s plenty to see over the course of a day. The island’s just 21 miles in length and 14 miles wide. You can join an excursion or jump onboard one of the local buses and you won’t go far wrong. Bridgetown, the capital, is a good place to visit on the southwest coast as is Holetown a bit further up on the west coast. The airport is around 15-20 minutes’ drive from the Bougainvillea.

St. Lawrence Gap, on the south coast, is worth visiting, especially as you’re staying nearby. It’s the perfect place to sample local life, with sand-dusted boardwalks leading to street food stalls, restaurants and bars.
