Holiday location
Local Area
Barbados is nestled slightly to the east of the main chain of islands in the Caribbean, and filled with lush botanical gardens, historic sugarcane plantations and endless miles of white, sandy beaches and offshore coral reefs. The island’s west coast, especially, has become known for its upscale spa resorts and fine dining venues.
Tamarind is within walking distance to its sister hotels Treasure Beach and The House, and the complimentary daytime water taxi service will ferry you along the west coast to Waves Resort & Spa, Crystal Cove and Colony Club. For guests staying at an all-inclusive resort such as Tamarind, you also have access to a choice of dining options, at all the hotels name-checked above (with the exception of Colony Club) and also at another sister hotel – Turtle Beach – down on the island’s south coast. All you need to do is ask the front desk to make a reservation; they can also book taxis if required. Alternatively, you can get a glimpse of local life by heading into Holetown (just three kilometres from the hotel) or enjoy an excursion to the island’s capital, Bridgetown. Both have their fair share of museums and monuments as well as shops and bars.
From the limestone caverns and subterranean stalagmites at Harrisons’ Cave to the Mount Gay Rum Distillery and underwater adventures at Folkestone Marine Park; if you’re thinking that Barbados is only good for sun, sea and sand, here’s where you think again.
