Athens Half-Day Tour
1 / 8
It may just be half a day, but this tour takes in all the key sites in the ancient Greek capital. It’s a journey through time, too, taking you from neoclassical splendours like the imposing National Gallery to the glorious Acropolis, Athens’ crowning glory and the most important ancient site in the Western world. There’s time to visit the Acropolis Museum too, which holds some of its most dazzling treasures.
Cave of the Lakes
1 / 8
Bring comfortable shoes and a sense of adventure as you head underground on this thrilling excursion. A boardwalk snakes through this eerily beautiful subterranean world, with stops along the way to see caverns dripping with stalactites, strange cauliflower-like rock formations, deep, crystal-clear pools and - in the last chamber - a cascading waterfall. The Cave of the Lakes is located near the village of Kastria, about 200km from Hotel Alkyon.
Delphi Day Tour
1 / 8
In ancient Greece all roads led to Delphi; they believed it was the centre of the universe, the home of Apollo and a sacred place where humans could communicate with gods. Even today it’s a magical place, beautifully preserved on a mountainside overlooking the Gulf of Corinth. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Delphi is one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe.
Epidaurus - Mycenae - Nafplio
1 / 8
This tour packs in three of the biggest cultural treasures in the Peloponnese. First is Epidaurus, revered in the ancient world for miraculous healing powers and still drawing visitors to its exquisite limestone theatre, the best-preserved in Ancient Greece. Next, it’s the ruins of mighty Mycenae, once the most powerful kingdom in Greece, to pay our respects to the tomb of Agamemnon and hear his tragic tale. We end our tour in waterside Nafplio, whose elegant streets of Venetian houses and sun-splashed neoclassical mansions are perfect for an afternoon stroll.
Kalavryta
1 / 8
The alpine town of Kalavryta - loved by walkers in summer and skiers in winter - is worth a visit for the scenery alone. But this excursion has another attraction - your journey takes you on the spectacular Odontotos Rack Railway. Skirting rushing rivers, jutting rock faces and dramatic tunnels and gorges, you’ll see some of Greece’s prettiest mountain scenery before stepping off in Kalavryta to enjoy its cobblestoned streets and colourful shops and cafes.
Mystras - Routes to Byzantine
1 / 8
Walk back in time to the days of Byzantine rule in beautiful, UNESCO-listed Mystras. Explore cobbled streets worn smooth over centuries, and step into a series of ruined palaces, houses, churches and monasteries in this town that spills down a verdant mountainside and is surrounded by olive and orange groves. It’s a spectacular setting, and the journey here is described as one of the most beautiful in the Peloponnese.
Olympia Tour
1 / 8
Olympia is one of the most atmospheric ancient sites in all of Greece. Birthplace of the Olympic Games, which were held here every four years for an incredible 1100 years, you can still imagine the cheering crowds and honed athletes as you explore its ruined Temple of Zeus, Gymnasium and 40,000-seat stadium. This tour also visits the fascinating Archaeological Museum of Olympia which displays statues, ceramics and artefacts found on the site.
Wine Tasting at Nemea
1 / 8
Explore the art of vineyard cultivation and winemaking as practised by the Bairaktaris family at their modern winery on the outskirts of Nemea. The family has been growing grapes for generations, and during your visit you’ll get to know the secrets of wine production on a tour of the winery and try their renowned reds and light dry whites with a wine tasting session.
