England

Travellers to England need to know three things. Firstly, don’t bank on the weather; secondly, don’t get into a debate about football, politics or cream teas; and finally, not everyone speaks English quite as clearly as the Queen. This is a country that’s full of surprises and one that you’ll find peace and excitement in equal measures. From the surfer beaches of Cornwall and the seaside city of Brighton to Manchester, Liverpool, Cambridge and Oxford; holidays in the UK should always include England.

Wales

There’s something about Wales that feeds the wild spirit. This westerly country boasts one of the world’s finest seascapes within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park as well as hiking heaven centred around Wales’s tallest peak, Mt. Snowdon. Head to the Gower, close to Swansea, and you’ll be treated to wide expansive beaches overlooking the Bristol Channel whereas, inland, market towns, such as Betws-y-Coed, Conwy, and Hay-on-Wye, provide a peaceful glimpse of life way out west.

Scotland

If you’re looking to escape the English for a few days, head across Hadrian’s Wall and into Scotland. Here’s where the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh provide a mix of the old and the new as well as access to the Scottish Highlands in and around Cairngorms National Park. Fort William and Glencoe on the west coast call to the walkers around Ben Nevis while the seaside town of Oban invites offshore adventures in and around the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides.

Northern Ireland

Flying into Belfast or taking the ferry from Liverpool places you right at the heart of Northern Ireland. This is the region’s capital city and a fine location for learning more about the birthplace of the Titanic as well as taking a stroll around St. George’s Market. Explore elsewhere in Northern Ireland and you’ll find the lunar-like Giant’s Causeway overlooking the North Atlantic as well as woodlands, gorges and trickling streams and rivers collected within the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains.

What are flight times within the UK?

What’s the weather like in the UK?

The further west and north you travel in the UK the more the chances increase of erratic weather. However, there’s no such thing as bad weather so just bring your waterproofs, plenty of layers and sensible walking shoes and you should be fine. The UK is a seasonal country with wet, cold and dark winters, wet and mild springs, dry(ish) and warm summers, and mild and dry(ish) autumn months.

What’s the time zone for the UK?

The UK time is set to GMT.

What language is spoken in the UK?

English is the official language of the UK although you might come across some regional dialects and languages, and Welsh is an additional official language in Wales.
