Birdlife of the Costa Blanca
Birdlife of the Costa Blanca
Find out why countless species of birds call the coasts and peaks of Spain’s Costa Blanca their home during a hotel-stay in Denia, an historic seaside town. After an introductory presentation from your expert host, head into neighbouring Montgó Natural Park on a half-day excursion on the first day of your holiday. A full-day excursion to Albufera de Valancia reveals the third largest wetland reserve in Spain while a trip to Pego marshes offers the opportunity to spy migrant species like skylarks, reed bunting and kingfisher.
The Natural Park of El Fondo boasts a reservoir which is home to the rare white-headed ducks and red-knobbed coots while at the salt pans of Santa Pola thousands of flamingos are resident, plus visitors include godwits, avocets, sandpipers and plovers. Drive to the Steppes of Alicante in search of great bustard and little owl, among others, while be sure to keep an eye out for golden eagles and red kites which are common in this area.

Local Area
Quintessentially Spanish, the coastal town of Denia is as authentic as it gets. The 11th-century hilltop castle is a focal point, surrounded by rainbow-coloured fishing shacks overlooking the harbour. Browse the designer boutiques along the tree-lined Carrer Marques de Campo. Find a pavement café in the Old Town to while away a few hours, or stroll to the cosmopolitan marina, where you’ll find an abundance of waterside eateries.
