Ruby’s Inn is located in Bryce Canyon City, which is something of a misnomer as nobody could truthfully describe this as a city. You don’t visit here in search of urban buzz; in fact, the only things nearby that vaguely resemble skyscrapers are the multi-coloured hoodoos, or rock pinnacles, for which Bryce Canyon National Park is rightly famous!

Bryce Canyon City, in reality, comprises no more than a handful of places to stay, a gas station, plus a few essential services for visitors to the National Park, the entrance to which is just one mile south. The informative visitor centre is 2.5 miles from the hotel, an essential stop before you head deeper into Bryce Canyon NP. Here, you can tackle your choice of rewarding walking trails, and pause to admire the many viewpoints over this surreal landscape, with names such as Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Upper and Lower Inspiration Points, and, at the end of the dead-end road into the heart of the park, Rainbow Point.

Bryce Canyon is a highlight of any trip in the American Southwest and makes an ideal stopover if you’re travelling between Las Vegas & Zion National Park to the south, or towards Moab or Salt Lake City to the north. An overnight stay allows you to enjoy the ranger-led astronomy and stargazing programmes at the visitor centre, as well as appreciate how the early morning and late afternoon sun has such a dramatic impact on the colours of the rock.
