Local Area
There can be few more recognisable natural landmarks in America other than the Grand Canyon. Carved over time by the Colorado River cutting through the Sonoran Desert, this is where folk head for hiking trails, scenic flights and just because it’s there. You can also stay overnight in desert resort hotels that are located close to the national park entrance, such as here in the little resort village of Tusayan.
Although the canyon staddles four US states – Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Colorado – the South Rim in Arizona is the best location for first timers and those just passing through, as the canyon is at it's wildest, deepest and most impressive. Here you’ll find hop on/hop off shuttle buses as well as national park information services.
If you’re on a road trip, it takes around five hours’ travel time heading east from Las Vegas, or around an hour and a quarter north of Flagstaff.
