Local Area
Located around an hour’s drive south of Fort Myers, the Gulf Coast city of Naples has become synonymous with sugar white sand and lush green fairways. This is where folk head for Championship golf courses, shopping and those all-important Florida sunsets.
Thanks to the mid-west coastal setting, the city suburbs make an ideal stopover if you’re on a self-drive tour. You can then continue onto the Everglades or across to Fort Lauderdale, Miami and the Florida Keys – all of which are just a couple of hours’ drive.
If you’re looking to stay put for more than a night or two, there are some wonderfully luxurious resorts where you could happily spend an entire season. And the longer you stay in Naples the more you’ll get into the sandalled and sun-kissed swing of things.
You can paddle off around mangroves in search of manatees, for instance, or book a boat tour and watch the dolphins as the sun goes down. You can even take an airboat tour that will have you up and over the Everglades in just 30 minutes. What’s not to like?
