Spier Hotel & Wine Farm
Village style hotel on historic award-winning wine estate with an artistic modern twist.
This stunning wine estate, close to Stellenbosch, offers an ethical approach to organic farming as well as championing contemporary works of art. Throughout the Spier Hotel & Wine Farm you’ll discover entire rooms and walls devoted to modern art. The collection is considered to be one of the largest in South Africa and a true showcase of local talent. You’ll also be able to admire the farm’s carefully restored original heritage Cape Dutch buildings.
Natural beauty is also celebrated here with bike, Segway and walking trails leading through well-kept gardens and out into the surrounding farmlands and vineyards. You can also interact with hawks and eagles at the on site bird of prey rehabilitation centre. Packing a picnic full of gourmet goodies and locally produced wine is the perfect way to spend a day under the oaks or down by the river.
The hotel restaurant has a proud farm to fork ethos as well as a contemporary country twist when it comes to traditional dishes and regional specialities. There’s also a mouth-watering smokehouse and bakery where quality and quantity are in generous supply. Beef brisket, smoked pork, and whiskey-infused BBQ sauce tempt alongside veggie delights.
As if all of that delicious food and fresh air wasn’t relaxing enough, there’s also a spa overlooking the Eerste River. Alternatively, you can just spend time relaxing around one of the hotel pools or contemplating a trip to Cape Town, just under an hour’s drive away.
Whatever you’re into – gourmet food, local art, nature or award-winning wines – the Spier Hotel & Wine Farm is a perfect base for exploring the winelands and winding down.

Local Area
Situated just under an hour’s drive east of the Atlantic, Stellenbosch sits on the banks of the Eerste River sheltered by steep mountain slopes. This is one of South Africa’s oldest inhabited areas and synonymous with the vineyards grown throughout the valley.
As an integral part of the Cape Winelands, this is where folk head when they want to enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting or touring the neighbouring farms. It’s a pleasantly cool climate and the perfect place to walk in the hills or borrow a bike and cycle along the river.
Staying in the Stellenbosch area allows you to really get under the rural skin of the region. Ethical estates, such as Spier wine farm, have opened their doors to guests, and encourage an organic farm to fork philosophy. A stay in the Cape Winelands is an absolute ‘must do’ on any visit to Cape Town.
