The Chao Phraya River ceaselessly snakes through Bangkok as it makes its way south and into the Gulf of Thailand. Splitting the capital city in two leaves numerous notable districts on both sides of the river’s banks. Teak and rice have been transported via the water for time eternal. However, these days, you’re more likely to see cruise boats, commuter ferries and longtail water taxis plying their trade between the piers and riverside temples.
One neighbourhood that finds itself on the east side of the Chao Phraya is the historic Dusit district. This is the beating heart of old Bangkok, where politics and religion collide in the shape of the Government House and the white marble walls of Buddhist temple, Wat Benchamabophit.
