British colonial-era décor creates a timeless feel, and in the ‘Preferred Club’ junior suites and suites, the large private balconies feature oversized soaking tubs. All suites offer air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, cable TV, in-room safe and a mini bar that's refreshed daily. ‘Preferred Club’ suites include VIP amenities and services, such as private check in/out, Club Lounge access, upgraded bath products and afternoon hors d’oeuvres. If you’re flying into Jamaica, you’ve got to choose your airport carefully – for Secrets St. James you want to be touching down at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, just 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel – the alternative in the island’s capital Kingston is three and a half hours away.
Montego Bay is where where many of the island’s resorts are located, with white-sand beaches and superb spots for snorkelling. The town of Montego Bay itself is also a big draw, with Doctor’s Cave Beach, Harbour Street Craft Market and the clubs and bars on Gloucester Avenue (aka the ‘Hip Strip’) all popular hangouts.
If you’re looking for more of a natural feel to Jamaica, head inland to Cockpit Country Forest Reserve – around two hours’ drive from Montego Bay. This is the country’s most expansive rainforest and well worth a day’s excursion if you’ve remembered your walking shoes. Alternatively, if you’re interested in exploring more of the west coast, Seven Mile Beach and the town of Negril are well worth a trip.
