Local Area

Banff is a busy, cosmopolitan hub for visitors to the Rockies, and Elk + Avenue is right in its bustling centre, at the intersection of Elk Street and Banff Avenue.

You’ll find plenty to occupy you here – from museums to boutique shops, high-end restaurants to cosy cafés. While most come (naturally) for the wilderness that lies just minutes away, it makes a fabulous base for a few days of fresh air here in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

The first port of call for many is the gondola up Sulphur Mountain – offering amazing views over the Banff National Park, founded in the 1880’s and one of the world’s oldest. The park offers just about any outdoor activity you could imagine. There are numerous hiking and mountain biking trails to explore, canyons and rivers, icefields and lakes. The famous glacier-fed, turquoise Lake Louise is nearby, and makes a great venue for a canoe trip.
