Situated just a half hour’s drive from the Mexican border, San Diego is an easy-going Californian city by the sea. This is where folk come to get into those good vibrations with plentiful green parks, white sand beaches and peaceful saltwater bays.
Mission Bay, in particular, is always popular with holiday makers. It’s got just the right mix of laid-back tropical paradise and things to do. SeaWorld and Belmont Park are right on your sand dusted doorstep. It’s also a good start point for sightseeing cruises – the Bahia Belle sternwheeler boat is one of the best ways to see the bay from the water.
Once you’ve had your fill of Mission Bay’s bountiful beaches, the delights of downtown are just 15mins away. Balboa Park is the best place to start a sightseeing tour with gorgeous gardens, Spanish art studios and the city zoo always providing a great day out. Borrow a bike and go for a pedal or jump on the Old Town Trolley as it trundles around the city.
The Old Town is also the best place to find out more about southern California’s Mexican and Spanish heritage. This is where you’ll find numerous examples of adobe architecture as well as arts and crafts boutiques, and the Wells Fargo Museum.
As the sun goes down, the Gaslamp Quarter livens up. This is San Diego’s entertainment hub with late night bars, live music venues and a wide range of regional restaurants. If you’re looking for a celebratory night on the tiles, this is the place to head to.
