Local Area
Situated just over three hours’ drive east of San Francisco, Yosemite National Park resides within northern California’s formidable Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s a pristine world of towering sequoias, giant redwoods and pungent evergreens. Staying within a pine forest, close to the park entrance, will work wonders for your health, soul and imagination.
Craning your neck becomes second nature here as you encounter towering cliff faces, gigantic granite domes, and tumbling waterfalls fed by aeons-old glaciers. Many of the parks most iconic rock formations have achieved global notoriety. Half Dome, El Capitan, and Cathedral Rocks can all be seen on an organised or self-guided tour.
From cascades like Ribbon, Bridal Veil, and Sentinel Falls, to some of the largest trees on the planet such as Grizzly Giant, Fallen Monarch and General Sherman, there's shortage of sights to see on a hike in Yosemite Valley - just don't forget your camera.
