If you’re in the mood for a road trip why not follow the Florida Keys from Key Largo at the top to Key West, down south. It’s a great drive across the Overseas Highway with the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Atlantic to the east offering some amazing ocean views.
Over the course of 127miles you’ll pass by seaside villages and scenic state parks as you head to the south-eastern tip of America. Be sure to pull over at a beachside cafe for Key lime pie and conch fritters before you enter Key West at North Roosevelt Boulevard.
Once you arrive take your time to get into the easy-going pace of life. Check into a coffee shop for a lazy brunch and to hear the strains of a Cuban guitar. Then you’ll be ready to wander down Duval Street and pass by the rows of pastel faded conch houses.
Check out Hemingway’s former home, stand in front of the lighthouse or just grab a seat at a rooftop terrace in Mallory Square and wait for the sunset with a well-mixed margarita.
