Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa is set in lush, tropical gardens and enjoys an oceanfront location on famed Ka’anapali Beach, a lovely sandy stretch on Maui’s northwestern coast.
The views across to the neighbouring island of Lanai are spectacular, as is the inland backdrop of the West Maui Mountains. The airport at Kahului takes about 45 minutes by car.
Hiring a car is the best way to explore the island, and there’s a lovely drive along Maui’s north shore, which follows the contours of the jagged coastline to the little town of Hana. For something entirely different, the lunar landscapes of Mount Haleakala are well worth exploring – at just over 10,000 feet, this is Maui’s highest peak – the summit is home to some unique plant species found nowhere else on the planet, and the views are simply outstanding.
