Chef Irini Tzortzoglou
Chef Irini was born in a small village on the island of Crete. Eating fresh home-cooked food surrounded by a home of loving people was an early memory for her and has continued to impact her appreciation for food.
In 2018, after a 30-year career in banking, Irini wanted a challenge as she approached her 60th birthday, and what better way than to enter the BBC MasterChef competition - which she won, wowing the judges with Greek flavours and ingredients they had not seen or tasted before...
Irini subsequently won the hearts of the UK, and her following successes include the publication of her recipe book 'Under The Olive Tree', her ambassador work with 'Women in the Food Industry', as well as her collaboration with the Royal Overseas League in Mayfair.
Surrounded by orange groves and vineyards, Hotel Alkyon has a cosy lobby with welcoming open fireplaces and a central circular bar for enjoying the nightly free drinks. It’s a comfortable place to stay, with lovely rooms and public areas, plus a great indoor pool that’s perfect for the cooler months. The curved outdoor pool and lush gardens mirror the surrounding Corinthian landscape and a pebble beach is only a quick stroll away, with spectacular views across the bay.
