Huelva city
The city of Huelva boasts an impressive history, having been occupied by the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Moors. Spend a day exploring the city and you'll discover highlights like the Cathedral of La Merced, one of the best examples of baroque architecture in the province. Other notable sights include the art nouveau Clinica Sanz de Frutos and the neo-classical facade of the Gran Teatro.
Doñana National Park
If you’re a nature lover or a keen walker, you’ll adore exploring Doñana National Park. This UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve is the largest surviving areas of wetland in Europe and is home to a variety of species.
Half a million water birds spend their winter here each year – look out for vultures, lapwings, marsh harriers and honey buzzards. Deer and wild boar also roam the plains, while the endangered Iberian Lynx – whose habitat is restricted to the Iberian Peninsula – is a rare sighting that causes ripples of excitement for those lucky enough to spot one.
Head to the beach
Huelva’s stunning coastline stretches 75 miles from the mouth of the Guadiana River to the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, so you’re sure to find your own idyllic piece of beach to relax on during your stay. The beaches at Isla Cristina are particularly tempting.
