Alaska, Yukon & The Klondike Gold Rush – Railroads & Cruise
8 meals
This is an epic two-week road, rail, and cruise tour of this fascinating and remote part of the world, and it kicks off with free time to explore British Columbia’s largest city, Vancouver. From here, you’ll board Holland America Line’s elegant Zaandam and set sail on a three-night cruise of Alaska’s Inside Passage. This incredibly scenic stretch of coastline features glacier-lined fjords, like Tracy Arm Inlet, as well as time spent exploring Juneau, the Alaskan state capital. After disembarking in Skagway, you’ll swap cruise ship for heritage railroad as you clamber aboard the White Pass & Yukon Route train towards Whitehorse, the capital of Canada’s Yukon Territory. This region is awash with canyons, mountain peaks and river rapids, natural barriers that were once the scourge of prospectors in the most famous gold rush of them all – the Klondike. You’ll head to Dawson City to find out more as well as learning about indigenous culture on the banks of the Yukon River. The final part of your adventure involves a scenic flight to Fairbanks from where you have an invitation to spend a couple of nights in Denali National Park, with a wildlife-spotting tour in the shadow of North America’s highest mountain peak. Travelling once again by historic railroad, this unforgettable journey concludes in the friendly city of Anchorage.
