Local Area
The mighty Niagara River flows between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, and forms the border between Canada and the USA. Here at Niagara Falls, it takes a dramatic tumble across two sets of falls and both the American and Horseshoe Falls are perhaps best appreciated from the Canadian side. Undoubtedly the main reason for any visit to Niagara Falls is to experience the spectacular cascades themselves, and you can do so from a variety of different angles including the ‘Journey Behind The Falls’ and by feeling the spray from the open-air deck on a highly recommended boat tour.
The town, however, has much more to offer than just the falls – it’s an incredibly popular resort year-round welcoming families, honeymooners, and visitors from around the world. The neighbourhood above the falls is home to several large resorts plus an indoor waterpark, casino, and entertainment complex – and has unrivalled views over both sets of falls from its elevated position. Down by the river, Clifton Hill is a neon-lit strip of affordable diners, souvenir shops and family-themed attractions, bustling by day and by night. Downstream from the falls, you can stroll along the White Water Walk, offering a first-hand experience into the power and peril of the Niagara River’s Class 6 whitewater rapids, which are some of the wildest in North America.
